The Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000 starts today, Wednesday 8 March, and will end on Sunday 19 March. There are 5 Azzurri in the main draw: Sinner, Musetti, Berrettini, Sonego, and Fognini. The South Tyrolean will make his debut in the second round against the French Gasquet and, in the third round, he could meet Musetti for an Italian derby.
Berrettini’s adventure, back from the boos in Acapulco, will also start from the second round where he will find the Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena or a qualifier.
Lorenzo Sonego will meet the 29-year-old Australian Jason Kubler in the first round: in case of victory he will have to face Grigor Dimitrov and could then meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16. Jasmine Paolini immediately meets the German Tatjana Maria: in case of victory, she will face the Russian Daria Kasatkina. Lucia Bronzetti will make her debut with Bernarda Pera to win the match in the second round against Liudmila Samsonova.
Indian Wells 2023: the favorites and the favorites
In the men’s field, the number 1 favorite is the Russian Medvedev. His most popular opponents are Alcaraz, Tsitsipas, Zverev, and Fritz Auger Alliassime. Novak Djokovic will be missing given that the vaccination obligation is in force until May to play in the States.
