7.3 million people traveled from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, during the first quarter of this year. 71 thousand tons of goods were sent and received from King Khalid International Airport during the first quarter, the first of 2019. 52 thousand tons of goods were shipped and received in the quarter. The Saudi newspaper 24 quoted the authorities as saying that the number of passengers traveling on domestic flights has increased by 2 percent and the number of passengers on international flights by 24 percent in 2023 compared to 2019, the first quarter of this year. During 2019, the daily average number of passengers traveling from King Khalid International Airport was more than 81 thousand, while the number of passengers in the first quarter of 2019 was 77 thousand. Currently, the number of staff working at the airport is more than twenty five thousand.

 

 

Officials said that during the first quarter of this year, 50 airlines are operating flights from Riyadh Airport, 47 of them are commercial and three are cargo. In 2019, the number of airlines was 34, which has increased by 47%. During the first quarter of this year, flights were operated from King Khalid Airport to 82 airports, which is an increase of 9.3% on annual basis, flights were operated to 24 domestic and 58 international airports.

Recently, the Emir of Riyadh, Prince Faisal bin Bandar, inaugurated the operation of International Passenger Terminals No. 3 and 4 at King Khalid International Airport after their renovation and expansion. Riyadh Airport has five terminals where Terminal 1 and 2 are used for international services while Terminal 5 is operated by domestic airlines, Terminal 3 was used for domestic flights in the past but later ceased operations, while Terminal 4 was used by Hawaii in 1983. The base has been defunct since its opening.

It is reported that the Emir was welcomed at the opening ceremony by the Minister of Transport and Logistics and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) Eng.
